Mark Franko Custom Building has been renovating and building homes for Richmond families for 37 years. Our tagline — Helping Families Live Well — describes what we actually do, and we mean it more ways than one. It’s about the families we build for. It’s also about the families of the people who work here, the families of the subs and suppliers we work alongside, and the families of the designers and architects we collaborate with. The work is good because those relationships are good, and the relationships are good because we take the work seriously.
We’re looking for an Estimator to join our team.
Here’s the honest description of the job. Estimating is the skill; project and mission support is the core. You’ll be pricing new projects — taking plans and scopes and turning them into materials, labor, subcontractor work, and a number we can stand behind to a family making a real decision about their home. You’ll also be supporting projects in process — purchasing, change orders, value engineering, real-time pricing for field decisions, sub and vendor follow-up that needs to land quickly so the project doesn’t stall. The work is varied: new construction, whole-house renovations, kitchens and baths, outdoor living, and the smaller jobs we do for clients we’ve now been working with for two and three decades.
We’re not particular about the job title on your resume. We are particular about whether you’ve actually done this kind of work somewhere — translating drawings or scopes into materials, quantities, and pricing. That experience might be at another builder. It might be at the desk of a lumberyard or a window-and-door supply house. It might come from running takeoffs as a project lead or lead carpenter. It might come from one of the trades, where you’ve been bidding electrical or plumbing or HVAC work for your crew. If you can read a plan and turn it into a defensible number — and explain how you got there — you have what we need.
What we offer: Compensation structured commensurate with experience and ability. A family friendly benefits package. A small highly collaborative leadership team that invests in its people. Variety of work. The satisfaction of seeing your numbers turn into actual homes for actual families.
What we want: Someone who reads plans well, takes numbers seriously, and is comfortable picking up the phone to chase down a vendor or a sub. Solid Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, and a willingness to learn new software as we adopt it. Curiosity about how a project actually goes together — what’s behind the wall as well as in front of it. The kind of person who would rather get the number right than get it fast, and rather work somewhere their work is noticed than somewhere they’re a slot to be filled.
If that sounds like you, we’d like to talk.
